Domain C is the largest section of the RBT exam at 25%. It covers how RBTs implement skill acquisition programs under BCBA supervision using evidence-based teaching procedures.
Discrete Trial Training (DTT) is a structured teaching method broken into: Discriminative Stimulus (SD) → Prompt → Response → Consequence → Inter-trial interval. Each repetition is one "trial."
Naturalistic Environment Teaching (NET) teaches skills in everyday settings using the learner's motivation. It includes Incidental Teaching, Mand Training, and pivotal response strategies.
Prompting helps the learner respond correctly. The hierarchy from most-to-least intrusive is: Physical → Model → Gestural → Positional → Verbal. Prompt fading gradually reduces assistance to build independence.
Chaining teaches multi-step tasks. Forward chaining teaches the first step first; backward chaining teaches the last step first; total task chaining teaches all steps each trial.
Shaping reinforces successive approximations toward a target behavior. Token economies use conditioned reinforcers (tokens) exchanged for backup reinforcers to motivate skill building.
Generalization ensures skills transfer across people, settings, and materials. Maintenance ensures learned skills persist over time without direct teaching.
