Active DomainUnderstanding Professional Conduct & Ethics in ABA
Domain F covers 16% of the RBT exam and focuses on maintaining professional boundaries, adhering to the BACB Ethics Code, and advocating for client dignity.
Scope of Practice defines the boundaries of what an RBT is trained and certified to do. RBTs do not design treatment plans or conduct assessments independently; they always work under the direct supervision of a qualified supervisor (typically a BCBA).
Professional Boundaries must be strictly maintained to prevent dual relationships (e.g., becoming friends on social media, babysitting, or accepting gifts from clients or their families). Dual relationships compromise clinical objectivity.
Supervision Requirements mandate that RBTs receive ongoing supervision for at least 5% of the hours they spend providing behavior-analytic services each month. Supervision must include at least two face-to-face contacts, one of which must be individual.
Client Dignity is the core ethical responsibility of all practitioners. RBTs must treat clients with respect, protect their privacy, provide age-appropriate materials, and support their autonomy and self-advocacy whenever possible.
