Start FlashcardsUnderstanding Assessment in ABA
Domain B covers 11% of the RBT exam and focuses on how RBTs assist in conducting assessments under BCBA supervision. You are expected to know the types, methods, and purpose of each assessment procedure used in ABA practice.
Preference assessments are used to identify stimuli that may function as reinforcers. The four main types are Free Operant (observing what the client naturally approaches), Multiple Stimulus Without Replacement (MSWO), Paired Stimulus (forced choice), and Single Stimulus. RBTs conduct these under BCBA direction and record the results accurately.
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is a systematic process to understand why a challenging behavior occurs. RBTs assist with three methods: Indirect (interviews, rating scales, record reviews), Direct (ABC data collection, scatterplot recording), and Functional Analysis (experimental manipulation of variables — typically BCBA-led).
ABC data stands for Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence. Accurate ABC recording helps identify patterns that inform the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). Baseline data collected before any intervention begins serves as the comparison standard for measuring progress.
Use these flashcards to commit each assessment term and procedure to memory. Daily retrieval practice is proven to dramatically improve recall under exam conditions.
